How to Keep Raccoons Away from Bird Feeders

The best way to keep raccoons away from bird feeders is to remove any potential food sources that may attract them. This means keeping your yard clean and free of debris, as well as making sure your bird feeders are properly secured. You can also try using a motion-activated sprinkler system to deter raccoons from approaching your property.

  • Purchase a feeder that is raccoon proof
  • There are many different types of feeders on the market that are designed to keep raccoons away from the bird food
  • Place the feeder in an open area away from trees, shrubs, or other structures that raccoons could use to climb up to the feeder
  • If you already have a bird feeder in place, make sure it is secured so that it cannot be tipped over by a raccoon
  • Also, consider placing a baffle above the feeder to prevent raccoons from reaching it
  • Keep your bird seed stored in a secure location such as a metal garbage can with a lid that locks shut
  • This will prevent raccoons from getting into the seed and making themselves sick in the process

Stopping Raccoons from Climbing Bird Feeder Pole

If you have a bird feeder in your yard, chances are you’ve had the occasional raccoon visit. Raccoons are notorious for their thieving habits, and they will often try to raid bird feeders in search of a meal. While it may be amusing to watch them try to climb the pole or balance on the top of the feeder, it’s not so fun when they actually succeed in getting the bird food.

Here are some tips to keep raccoons from raiding your bird feeder: – Use a heavy duty bird feeder pole that is difficult for raccoons to climb. You can also wrap the pole with chicken wire or hardware cloth to make it even more difficult for them to scale.

– Make sure your bird food is inaccessible by placing the feeder high up off the ground, at least 5 feet if possible. If raccoons can’t reach the food, they won’t bother trying. – Another option is to use a squirrel proof bird feeder which has a weight activated perch that closes off access to the food when anything heavier than a small songbird lands on it.

This will keep both raccoons and squirrels away from your bird food.

How to Keep Raccoons Away from Bird Feeders

What Will Repel Raccoons But Not Birds?

There are a few things you can do to repel raccoons, but keep in mind that what works for one person may not work for another. You’ll just have to experiment until you find something that does the trick for you. One thing you can try is making a mixture of water and vinegar.

The strong smell of vinegar will often deter raccoons from coming into your yard. Just be sure to reapply after it rains or if the mixture starts to fade. You could also try using motion-activated sprinklers.

These will startle raccoons when they come near, and eventually they’ll learn to stay away from your property altogether. Just be careful not to accidentally soak any birds that may be visiting your yard! If you have a lot of trees on your property, you might also want to invest in some netting.

This will prevent raccoons from being able to climb up into the trees and raid bird nests. Be sure to secure the netting well so that it doesn’t become a hazard for birds or other animals.

How Do You Keep Raccoons off Your Bird Feeder?

There are a few things you can do to keep raccoons off your bird feeder. One is to place the feeder on a pole or in an area where raccoons can’t reach it. Another is to use a baffle, which is a device that goes around the feeder and prevents animals from getting to the food.

Finally, you can try using a squirrel-proof feeder, which has a weight-activated mechanism that closes off access to the food when anything heavier than a squirrel lands on it.

What Smells Keep Raccoons Away?

Raccoons are attracted to food sources, so removing garbage and securing pet food is the best way to keep them away. However, there are some smells that raccoons dislike that can be used as a deterrent. Ammonia and naphthalene are both foul-smelling chemicals that will repel raccoons.

Citrus fruits like lemons and oranges also have a strong scent that raccoons do not like. You can use these smells to keep raccoons away by soaking rags in them and placing them around your property.

What Naturally Keeps Raccoons Away?

Raccoons are a common nuisance animal in many parts of North America. Their playful nature and cute appearance belie their mischievous habits, which often include raiding garbage cans, tipping over lawn furniture, and stealing pet food. While there’s no surefire way to keep raccoons away for good, there are some natural deterrents you can try.

One of the best ways to keep raccoons away is by making your property less attractive to them. Raccoons are attracted to areas that provide easy access to food and shelter. If you eliminate potential food sources and make it difficult for them to take up residence on your property, they’ll be less likely to stick around.

Here are some tips: -Keep garbage cans tightly sealed with a lid that latches shut. Raccoons are adept at opening simple latches, so it’s important to use a can with a tight-fitting lid that can’t be easily pried open.

-Feed pets indoors or pick up their food bowl when they’re finished eating. Don’t leave pet food out overnight as this will just attract raccoons (and other animals). -Remove any fallen fruit from trees or garden areas as soon as possible.

Raccoons love ripe fruit and will go out of their way to get it! -Make sure your home is in good repair with no gaps or openings that could serve as entry points for raccoons looking for a place to nest. In addition to making your property less inviting, you can also try using natural repellents to deter raccoons from hanging around.

Some people swear by using ammonia-soaked rags placed near potential problem areas, while others have success with commercial repellents containing ingredients like naphthalene or anthraquinone. Ultrasonic devices designed to emit high-frequency sound waves may also work – just be aware that these can also disturb your own peace and quiet!

How Do I Keep Raccoons Away From My Bird Feeders

If you have a bird feeder in your yard, chances are you’ve also had a raccoon or two visit. Raccoons are attracted to the easy meals that bird feeders provide, but they can be destructive and even dangerous to birds. There are a few things you can do to keep raccoons away from your bird feeder.

One way to deter raccoons is to make the area around your bird feeder less inviting. Remove any potential hiding spots like bushes or tall grass. Keep your garbage cans lids securely fastened and pick up any fallen food scraps around the area.

You can also try making the bird feeder itself less accessible by hanging it from a wire or pole that’s at least 5 feet off the ground. If you’re still having trouble with raccoons, there are some commercial repellents available that use sound, light, or scent to scare them away. You can also try using a motion-activated sprinkler system to startle them when they approach the area.

Whatever method you choose, be patient – it may take some time for the raccoons to get the message and find somewhere else to look for food.
